Ranking system

Below are the principles of the ranking system we use. This is due to a so-called ”pingis ladder” where the principle is that if you beat a higher ranked contestant, you get his or her points. But our system has more factors than explained below.

Note the following two points around the ranking first
-Ranking is reset every year
-There are two ranking lists, one for MMA Class-A and one for MMA Class-B.

The ranking is based on a formula that can be written

R = P x F
R = Ranking (the number shown on the website)
P = Score
F = Factor

F – Factor

This part is the easiest to understand. It is a factor that depends on how many bouts the contestant has fought as follows:

Number of bouts – Factor
0 – 1.00
1 – 1.10
2 – 1.19
3 – 1.27
4 – 1.34
5 – 1.40
6 – 1.45
7 – 1.49
8 – 1.52
9 – 1.54
10 or more – 1.55

As seen, the increase of the factor decreases by 0.01 for each bout a competitor competes in. The reason for this factor is that it should pay off to compete in many bouts. This gives an incentive to compete a lot.

P-Points

All contestants start with P = 1000. Then there are essentially 3 different cases depending on the outcome of the bout.

Loss
The loser of the bout will receive 30 points extra no matter who the person fights or how he /she loses. If it is the first bout, the calculation will look as followed:
R = (1000 + 30) x 1.1 = 1133 (i.e. P is 1000 + 30 and F is 1.1 for one (1) bout)
If the person loses two bouts straight – R = (1030 + 30) x 1.19 = 1261 (P is 1030 + 30 and F is 1.19 for two (2) bouts)

Win against lower ranked contestants
The next case is if someone has a higher score (P) than the opponent wins. This contestant receives 90 points extra
For example, a person’s losing the first bout and wins the second bout against someone who has not yet passed a bout (ie, have a lower P) Then the calculation is as follows R = (1030 + 90) x 1.19 = 1332.8 (P is 1030 +90 and F is 1.19)

Win against higher ranked contestants

If a competitor is matched against another competitor who has a higher or the same P and wins, the following happens. The winner then receives the other competitor’s P x a factor that is 1.12 for sub / TKO and 1.10 for judge’s decision/ disqualification / WO
If we take the example from above, it is then that we have a competitor who loses his/her first bout and has P = 1030 and meets one who competes his/her first bout and has P = 1000. The person with lower P wins on submission. Then winners receives the following R = (1030 x 1.12) x 1.10 = 1268.96 (P is 1030 x 1.12 and F is 1.10 for one bout)

Effect of the system

The following effect of the system

– To compete pays off due to the Factor System
– Losing is better than not competing at all
– Winning a higher ranked contestant is more worthwhile than winning a lower ranked
– Win sub / TKO against higher ranked contestants is worth more than judge’s decision / disqualification / WO
– The closer to SM, the more important it is to compete, the league rarely ends up in a position where it is ”already settled”

Then there are some special cases, for example, if you leave WO, you do not get any points at all.
